From June 9-11, 2025, Clemson University will host a dynamic two-and-a-half-day, hands-on Timber Design Faculty Development Workshop focused on helping tenure-track engineering faculty from accredited U.S. programs incorporate wood design into their curricula. In partnership with Think Wood and the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities, the workshop will guide faculty through the essentials of teaching students how to design with wood structural systems, from the National Design Specification and light-frame wood principles to introducing mass timber topics, course development, sample assignments, and collaborative dialogue with peers from across the U.S.
Through technical presentations, tours of Clemson’s cutting-edge mass timber facilities and their Experimental Forest, and practical discussions on incorporating wood systems into coursework, the Clemson Timber Design Workshop will equip engineering faculty participants with a toolkit of resources and the confidence to build timber curricula and to teach wood design courses that familiarize students with wood systems and encourage them to specify wood in their future careers.
The application period for this particular workshop is now closed, but Think Wood sponsors several such workshops each year. Contact us at education@thinkwood.com if you’d like to be notified about future workshop opportunities.
