  • University of Washington Timber Architecture Faculty Development Workshop
    Seattle, WA
    September 9-12, 2026
Timber is no longer a niche topic—it’s a core competency firms are actively seeking from architects. Yet many architecture programs lack the curriculum, materials, or faculty expertise to prepare their students to keep pace. In partnership with Think Wood, the University of Washington (UW)’s Center for Timber Innovation in the Built Environment (CTIBE) aims to deepen faculty experience and knowledge of mass timber by moving beyond the classroom setting. Through building tours, working forest visits, and hands-on learning from expert practitioners, Think Wood and the CTIBE are equipping architecture faculty to bring more relevant, real-world mass timber content into their…

  • Cal Poly Mass Timber Construction Management Faculty Workshop
    San Luis Obispo, CA
    September 30–October 2, 2026
Mass timber is moving from niche applications into mainstream construction, and it’s incumbent on construction management programs to prepare students for the projects, jobsites, and delivery models they will encounter after graduation. Hosted at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo—known for its learn-by-doing approach—the Mass Timber Construction Management Faculty Workshop is a three-day, hands-on program for CM educators who want to bring mass timber into their courses without redesigning an entire curriculum. This workshop is offered in partnership with Think Wood and open to faculty from CM, Construction Science, Construction Engineering, and closely related programs from U.S. based schools. Accepted participants…

  • Theory in Practice: Timber Workshop For Educators in Cortaccia, Italy
    Cortaccia, Italy
    June 23-25, 2026
In June 2026, 35 architecture, engineering, and construction management faculty from across the U.S. traveled to Cortaccia, Italy, where a centuries-old timber-building region has become home to some of the most advanced timber technology in Europe. Over three days at Rothoblaas’s headquarters, the workshop combined technical instruction, laboratory demonstrations, and full-scale mock-up building to turn advanced timber knowledge into classroom-ready teaching.  This workshop reflects what’s possible when manufacturers open their facilities to educators. The workshop demonstrates what manufacturer-educator partnerships can make possible: access to technical expertise, specialized facilities, and hands-on training that can be difficult to replicate on a university…

  • Inside Clemson University’s Workshop: Equipping Faculty to Teach Timber Engineering
    Clemson University
    June 9-11, 2026
In June 2026, Clemson University’s Wood Utilization + Design Institute (WU+D) welcomed 30 civil engineering faculty from across the country for a workshop built around a primary goal: helping faculty not only understand wood design, but confidently teach it to the students in their programs. The program was funded by Think Wood and led by WU+D Fellow Professor Weichiang Pang.  Think Wood invests in educators because they shape the next generation of design and construction professionals. Workshops like Clemson’s give faculty the hands-on experience, ready-to-use resources, and professional connections to teach wood and mass timber with confidence. To get involved…

  • Forest to Frame: Inside Auburn University’s Timber Architecture Workshop
    Auburn University
    June 2-5, 2026
In June 2026, Auburn University’s Mass Timber Collaborative hosted an intensive Timber Architecture Design Faculty Development Workshop, sponsored by Think Wood. Led by Tom Chung, principal of Leers Weinzapfel Associates Architects, the workshop guided architecture faculty from across the country through the full mass timber supply chain, from working forest to finished building.  Workshops like Auburn’s are part of Think Wood’s broader effort to equip faculty with the experience, resources, and connections needed to teach mass timber with confidence, to make wood a more accessible choice in design and construction for future AEC professionals. To attend a future workshop, explore…

  • Administrators Workshop: Integrating Mass Timber Across the Architecture Curriculum
    Fayetteville, AR
    November 8–9, 2025
At the University of Arkansas, 25 administrators from architecture programs across the U.S. engaged in a Think Wood-sponsored workshop to deepen their understanding of mass timber. The group brainstormed ways to align wood topics with student learning outcomes, envisioning a model curriculum to bring a well-rounded wood education to their classrooms. Think Wood partners with universities nationwide to support hands-on educational experiences for faculty and students alike. These opportunities help academic leaders bring wood education to the classroom and remove barriers to adoption in design and construction. • Building Mass Timber: Workshop for Construction Management Faculty
    SUNY ESF
    October 20-22, 2025
Construction trends change over time, but it’s easier to learn on the job if you have already learned the fundamentals in the classroom. The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) Building Mass Timber: Workshop for Construction Management Faculty invited educators in construction management to deepen their understanding of mass timber products and construction processes—and to develop frameworks for incorporating knowledge about these systems into their classrooms. If you’d like to attend a future wood education workshop sponsored by Think Wood and the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities or host one at your school, contact us at education@thinkwood.com…
