Think Wood, in collaboration with Clemson University’s Wood Utilization + Design Institute (WU+D), is offering faculty free access to an undergraduate wood engineering course package—ready to integrate into your curriculum today.

Developed by Clemson professors Weichiang Pang and Michael Stoner, this set of teaching resources includes:

Eight Lecture Modules with Slide Decks

The package includes eight PowerPoint lecture sets covering core topics in an undergraduate wood design course: wood and engineered wood product characteristics; sawn lumber beam design; glulam beam design; column design; wood structural panels; Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) gravity design; nailed connections; and bolted connections.

Ten Fully Solved Examples

The package also includes ten MathCAD examples aligned with the lecture modules, illustrating calculations for sawn lumber beams, glulam beams, columns, wood structural panels, CLT gravity design, three types of nailed connections, and two bolted connection configurations. Each file is editable, allowing faculty to adjust variables and loading conditions to create tailored assignments, quizzes, or in-class demonstrations.

Two Real-World Project Examples

Also, included are drawings and design context for a six-story light-frame apartment building and a two-story light-frame townhouse. These examples help students connect calculations to real building systems, detailing, and construction practices.

ABET-Ready Syllabus

A recommended undergraduate wood design course syllabus is also provided with mapped student learning outcomes, contact-hour guidance, and a list of topics—designed to streamline adoption in your program.

These resources are designed to save preparation time while giving students real-world, standards-based experience in light-frame and mass timber design and engineering. Check out this webinar from Professor Weichang Pang for an overview of the course materials and how to organize a code-aligned wood design course

Access is free for faculty—complete the short form to request your download package and start bringing innovative, sustainable wood solutions into your classroom.
